Know how: wet wraps in atopic eczema
Article Abstract:
Wet wraps can play a valuable role in treating extensive erythrodermic eczema where first-line treatments such as topical steroids have failed. Before application of wet wraps, the skin must be assessed, ideally in a dermatology clinic. Wet wraps should not be applied if there are any signs of infection. The patient may initially feel uncomfortable, and the treatment requires considerable input from the health care team. It is important to be aware of possible side-effects, including a possible rise in the potency and absorption of topical steroids.
