Langerhans cells lap up HIV-1
Article Abstract:
Researchers have shown that Langerhans cells in the skin and mucosa, which were thought to mediate the spread of HIV-1 in the body during sexual transmission, actually protect against HIV infection by capturing and destroying the virus. They have concluded that Langerin is a natural barrier to HIV-1 infection and it keeps Langerhans cell refractory to this virus and mediates viral clearance.

Thromboxane A(sub 2) and prostaglandin F(sub 2alpha) mediate inflammatory tachycardia
Article Abstract:
The roles of prostanoids in inflammatory tachycardia are examined using mice that lack each of the DP, EP (EP(sub 1), EP(sub 2), EP(sub 3), EP(sub 4)), FP, IP and TP receptors individually. The results show that inflammatory tachycardia is caused by a direct action on the heart of TXA(sub 2) and PGF(sub 2alpha) formed under systemic inflammatory conditions.

Prostaglandin E2-EP4 signaling initiates skin immune responses by promoting migration and maturation of Langerhans cells
Article Abstract:
Antigen-specific immune responses in the skin are initiated by antigen uptake into Langerhans cells and the subsequent migration of these cells to draining lymph nodes. The initiation of skin immune responses is facilitated through the PGE2-EP4 signaling by promoting the migration and maturation of Langerhans cells.
