Latex gloves: an increasing irritation to health care staff

Article Abstract:

A rise in the number of latex glove allergies within the UK National Health Service is expected to lead to stricter guidelines for the purchasing of high-quality latex products. Allergies tend to be caused by the inclusion of chemicals in the production processes, although more expensive gloves tend to cause less of a reaction. Hospital trusts are willing to pay higher glove purchasing prices to avoid the high cost of litigation suits resulting from exposure to latex during work. A rise in nut allergies may also be a result of exposure to latex at birth.
