Leaders urge caution over sponsored nurse packages
Article Abstract:
The UK department of health has issued a discussion paper regarding plans under which drug companies would establish disease management packages with NHS trusts and GP practices. These packages would link the management of a particular disease with its prevention and assess the costs of delivery. For the drug companies, they would lead to favourable product supply arrangements. However, nursing leaders are urging caution about the concept of drug companies sponsoring nurses, which would also be part of the packages.

The vote race: yet another looms - this time nurse have to choose 40 new UKCC members. But why is the turnout for this election always so low?
Article Abstract:
The UKCC has seen low turnouts at its elections, although it is nursing's governing body. Nurses claim they have to determine who should be voted onto the ruling council on the basis of a brief description and a photograph. Some question the necessity of having elections for a representative body, particularly if only 18% vote, as in the case of the 1992 election. Many felt that the UKCC is not close enough to ordinary nurses and some felt that sub-representatives from the regions would be a good idea.
