Lispro, a rapid-onset insulin

Article Abstract:

Lispro insulin (Humalog), a synthetic insulin analog, has several advantages over human regular insulin. Advantages include rapid absorption, higher peak concentrations, and the convenience of injecting just before meals. In contrast, the risk of hypoglycemia widens to 12 hours with lispro insulin, while more insulin-dependent patients may wish to inject more long-acting insulin to prevent hyperglycemia prior to the next meal.
