Lock in safety with lockout/tagout
Article Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has issued its Control of Hazardous Energy Sources standard to protect workers from serious danger. Employers are supposed to 'prevent the unexpected release of hazardous energy' when general industry machines and equipment are being serviced and maintained. The OSHA predicts that 122 accidents, 28,400 lost-workday injuries and 31,900 other injuries will be prevented each year as a result of the standard.

New PELs would be swell
Article Abstract:
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is planning a comprehensive revision of the permissible exposure limit (PEL) standard for hazardous chemicals in the workplace. The current standard was formulated based on research from the late 1960s. The industry, labor and OSHA need to cooperate and compromise to make the PEL standard update a reality. Significant progress on the PEL update will hopefully be achieved in 1997.

Wheel chocks, confined spaces and seat belts: what is OSHA's position on these standards?
Article Abstract:
The trucking industry should be aware of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) rules on wheel chocks, seatbelts and confined spaces. OSHA rules on chocks explicitly state that they should be used with brakes when parking, loading or unloading while seatbelts are to be used at all times. Confined spaces meanwhile are well defined as enclosed spaces where employees can get into a potentially hazardous situation.
