Loyalty incentives

Article Abstract:

Many of the UK's leading retailers now offer reward schemes for customers. These may appear to offer customers something for nothing, but this is actually not the case. It is important to be aware that reward schemes may not be as generous as they appear, and care should be taken to study the conditions carefully. Supermarkets obtain valuable information about individual customers' shopping habits through loyalty cards, and still charge higher prices than their continental European counterparts.

Tax avoidance

Article Abstract:

There are numerous ways in which people can pay less tax, such as making full use of children's tax-free allowances, making sure that marriage allowance is being received and putting savings into ISAs. ISAs or a pension plan can also be used to repay a mortgage as efficiently as possible. Non-taxpayers should make sure they are not paying interest on their savings. People should also take steps to avoid paying unnecessary inheritance tax.

Property prices

Article Abstract:

The price of houses increased by between 1.2-1.5% during March 1999 and interest rates are lower than they have been for almost 30 years, so it is a good time to buy. There is no longer any danger of negative equity because prices have stabilized and it is suggested that the mortgage rate may be only 5% by the end of the year 2000. Buyers should look out for attractive mortgage deals which can give up to 8% cash back or a cheap rate.
