Matrilysin (matrix metalloproteinase 7) in parturition, premature rupture of membranes, and intrauterine infection

Article Abstract:

Infections in the uterus appear to increase the production of an enzyme called matrilysin, according to a study of 275 pregnant women. Matrilysin belongs to a group of enzymes called matrix metalloproteinases.

Article Abstract:

Tumor necrosis factor alpha and its soluble receptor are present at higher levels in the amniotic fluid of pregnant women in premature labor compared to women who have term deliveries. This indicates that premature labor is an abnormal condition.
