Medicine's milestone year: 1995
Article Abstract:
America has been focused on medicine throughout 1995, with debates in congress over Medicare and lobbying by the American Medical Association (AMA) for its grass-roots reform proposal which was vetoed by President Clinton. In its efforts to improve the nation's health care system, the AMA has launched campaigns to increase public awareness about sexual abuse, alcoholism, and smoking.

Rethinking Medicare: AMA has plan to make this program affordable and available for future generations
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Association is proposing several changes to improve Medicare. Patient choice options should be funded via a defined government contribution. Cost-sharing should be reformulated to decrease out-of-pocket expenses and eliminate Medigap. Other recommendations include efficiency incentives, removal of price controls, and shifting to a private savings system.
