Diana Smith of Boulder City, Nevada, has limb-girdle muscular dystrophy since 1960, but has worked towards getting the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) grant money for park improvements. Smith has used her experience in public speaking to help raise awareness of accessibility issues.

As the wheel turns: safety in your chair means safety on the road

It is preferable for people to travel in power wheelchairs because the back tends to be higher than manual chairs, and the extra body makes the chair extra sturdy for a safe ride. Scooters do not provide enough security in case of an accident, as they do not have enough support.
