The population of U.S. is diversing, even then the racial and ethnic minorities are continued to be under-represented among health professionals. The Nation's Compelling Interest: Ensuring Diversity in the Health Care Workforce' summarizes the benefits of having a diverse health care field and it also outlines the ways to improve the representation of certain minorities in health professions.

The Sullivan Commission on Diversity in the Healthcare Workforce states that the lack of minorities (particularly those of color) in the healthcare workforce of the United States will have an effect on the health of minorities. Slower decline in national TB cases worries health workers

Article Abstract:

The U.S. saw a drop of only 1.9% in tuberculosis (TB) cases in 2002, which is perhaps the lowest in over a decade. It is believed that immigration, drug resistance among other factors could lead to outbreaks of TB.
