Effect of psyllium on gastric emptying, hunger feeling and food intake in normal volunteers: a double blind study

Article Abstract:

The effects of the soluble dietary fiber, psyllium on the gastric emptying of a low-calorie meal, gastric fullness, feelings of hunger and food intake are studied. Results show that psyllium decreased feelings of hunger and food intake following a low-calorie meal. Psyllium increased the time allowed for intestinal absorption, thereby extending the feelings of fullness and prompting a reduction in food intake.

Reduced mortality among whole grain bread eaters in men and women in the Norwegian County Study

Article Abstract:

Research describing the effect of eating whole grain bread on the health and longevity of a large group of people in Norway is presented. It is concluded that a high intake of whole grain bread contributes to the deterrence of chronic disease.
