Monoclonal antibodies: Targeted treatment
Article Abstract:
Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) are created in a laboratory and are designed to seek out and eliminate only those cells or proteins that are responsible for disease. The discovery of specific antigens for different diseases has allowed the creation of MAbs specific to a number of diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and breast cancer.

Ulcerative colitis: manageable, with a brighter outlook
Article Abstract:
New advances have made it easier ulcerative colitis patients to deal with flare-ups of the disease. New drugs, such as mesalamine and olsalazine have many fewer side effects than sulfasalzine, the former drug of choice. New surgery techniques eliminate the need for an external colostomy bag.
