N.Y. court ruling a victory - for society members

Article Abstract:

The New York State Court of Appeals ruled in Dec 1995 that only physicians who were members of the Medical Society of the State of New York filing as participants in a suit are entitled to be reimbursed by the state for certain Medicare Part B services. Claims for patients with both Medicare and Medicaid eligibility for services rendered between 1987 and 1992 are estimated by the state to be as high as $250 million. Payments would go only to the approximately 27,000 physicians who are society members out of a total of 63,000 physicians in the state.

States may get Medicaid money now, but pay for it later

Article Abstract:

The US PresidentEs proposal aims to ease the Medicaid financial squeeze thus attempting to find long-term relief by cutting future spending. This plan proposes to allow states to keep covering optional Medicaid populations for the near future, however this could put the programs in a precarious financial situation at the time when the infusion of cash runs out in 2010.
