Primary and Secondary Syphilis in the Metropolitan Area of Nashville and Davidson County, Tennessee
Article Abstract:
Nashville, Tennessee experienced an epidemic of syphilis each year from 1996 to 1998. Men and women were equally affected, and most cases occurred in downtown Nashville and surrounding areas. People between the ages of 30 and 39 were most affected, but teenagers experienced the greatest increase in new cases of syphilis. African-Americans were affected more than any other ethnic group.

Social Network Methods for Endemic Foci of Syphilis
Article Abstract:
Analysis of social networks may be valuable in identifying people who have a sexually transmitted disease (STD). Researchers used this technique to test 396 contacts of 48 infected and 50 uninfected people for an STD. Thirteen percent of those tested had syphilis and 24 people tested positive for HIV.
