Nuclear impact
Article Abstract:
Linda Robson, whose husband died of Hodgkin's disease at the age of 39, believes that her husband's illness was caused by working on nuclear submarines. A number of other people who worked on submarines have also become ill. Ms Robson is supporting the Chatham Dockyard Ex-Radiation Workers' Campaign in their attempts to obtain proper compensation, regular health checks and also a commitment from the Ministry of Defence (MoD) to undertake research into the health of other radiation workers. The MoD already offers a counselling service for these workers.

An open and shut case?
Article Abstract:
Professional and patient organisations give their responses to UK government proposals for the reform of mental health policy. New approaches to mental illness management will include outreach teams, more secure hospital beds, and strategies for patients who refuse to take prescribed medication. Many professional and patient groups feel that reform of care in the community was necessary, but are concerned about compulsory elements in the new policy and their enforcement by medical and nursing staff.
