Nurses' pensions: a need for a change

Article Abstract:

It may be advisable for nurses to seriously evaluate their financial plans for retirement. A variety of reasons prevent many nurses from taking advantage of employer-sponsored retirement plans. Traveling nurses, part-time nurses, those who change jobs frequently, or those who interrupt their careers for educational purposes may be ineligible for retirement benefits. Issues of contribution methods and plan portability deserve further negotiations. Personal investments in 401(k) or 401(b) plans, IRA accounts, or tax-deferred plans may be advisable.

How nurses perceive medication errors

Article Abstract:

A survey at an urban hospital found that medication errors among the nursing staff were underreported. The average number of medication errors reported by the 146 nurses responding to the survey was one or two during a three-month period. However, only 46 errors were officially reported during that period. The hospital had no guidelines specifying the nature of a medication error. Staff morale increased when changes were made to reduce the number of medication errors.
