American legislative agencies and professional organizations support the goals established by nurse practitioners. These include periodic competency requirements throughout nursing careers, increased levels of accountability and nationwide standards. Strategies for achieving these goals include public representation on professional medical boards and regulation of new or emerging practices.

Teleconsultation: The Death of Distance
Article Abstract:
Communications technology allows nurses and physicians to evaluate patients from a remote location. Technology allows health professionals to see more patients at lower costs. Telecommunications equipment can be used to consult with patients by using interactive video. It can also be used to transmit medical data such as radiographs and ultrasound images.
