Ovarian cancer inspires art exhibit

Article Abstract:

Artist John Magnan created a bronze helmet and shield, a single sculpture called Warrior in response to her wife's Mary Magnan's diagnosis and treatment for advanced ovarian cancer. John fashioned the armor from castings of Mary's hairless skull and torso, taken while she was receiving chemotherapy.

Scientists never dreamed finding would shape a half-century of sleep research

Article Abstract:

The history of research on rapid-eye movements (REM) during sleep is reviewed. When volunteers in sleep laboratories were awakened during these times, they always reported vivid dreams. This resulted in an explosion of research on REM and non-REM sleep, as well as an interest in sleep disorders.
