Article Abstract:
The UK's Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 places a duty on the owners of industrial sites to ensure that contractors undertaking repair work have a safe means of access and egress. Under the Construction (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996, the owner must provide a safe place of work and ensure that falls from a height are prevented by physical means. As an employer, the site owner must take measures to protect any employees working in the building from objects falling through the roof. Contractors' employees must take reasonable care to ensure that their health and safety are not endangered by acts and omissions.
