Plan will privatize New York City's hospital system
Article Abstract:
New York City Mayor Rudolph Guiliani has ordered that the city's hospital system be privatized. The order comes on the heels of a report criticizing the system for high costs and low quality. Turning New York's 11 hospitals, 76 clinics and 911 emergency service over to the private sector won't be easy. One concern is the city's 1.5 million uninsured. Recommendations range from selling and leasing city hospitals to affiliates to turning them into nonprofit corporations.
