Planning for a Kidney Transplant: Is My Doctor Listening?
Article Abstract:
A doctor discusses a new model for doctor-patient communication based on his own experience as a patient. He had polycystic kidney disease, and his wife agreed to donate a kidney. However, they decided to do this before his kidney function had deteriorated substantially. His doctors were reluctant to do this, but they ultimately performed the transplant. He believes patients' subjective feelings may be discounted in favor of objective test results. Doctors can convert patients' feelings into objective data by asking the patient to rank the feeling on a scale of 1 to 10.

End-stage renal disease measures of quality
Article Abstract:
A considerable growth is seen in size and associated cost of dialysis population and hence, there is consistent and evolving emphasis on measuring and improving the quality of dialysis care. Consequently, defined clinical performance measures are formulated, and the feasibility, value, pitfalls and appropriate quality metrics in a "payment-for-quality" program for dialysis care are under discussion.
