Plasma levels and redox status of ascorbic acid and levels of lipid peroxidation products in active and passive smokers

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that ascorbic acid, vitamin C's reduced form, is much lower in active smokers, while dehydroascorbate to ascorbic acid ratios were much higher in both active and passive smokers. Findings support the theory that cigarette smoke inhalation, active and passive, has a direct effect on plasma ascorbic acid redox status.

Quantification of two aromatic amine mutagens, PBTA-1 and PBTA-2, in the Yodo River system

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the health risk of two aromatic amine mutagens found in the Yodo River system in Japan. The results reveal that sewage plants may be responsible for the levels of genotoxic compounds sampled, and tests to assess human risk are suggested.
