Pregnancy complicated by congenital hepatic fibrosis with cavernous transformation of the portal vein: a case report

Article Abstract:

Several complications associated with the first-time twin pregnancy of a woman with fibrous liver disease and an abnormally developed portal vein are described. Amniotic fluid levels fell to less than normal amounts limiting the growth of the fetus during pregnancy. One twin died in the uterus while the other was successfully delivered by cesarean 30 weeks after conception. This infant also died after surgery to repair a blocked intestine. The mother experienced no serious complications during the pregnancy or delivery and had her spleen removed during the cesarean surgery.
