COGME has its own plan for curbing residency slots

Article Abstract:

The Council on Graduate Medical Education (COGME) has proposed an 11-point plan for reducing residency positions, following concerns from medical groups about work-force reductions. COGME's plan, which is scheduled for release by April 1, 1997, calls for a cap on Medicare's direct medical education (DME) payments at 1996 numbers, a phasing down of DME funds for exchange visitors to zero and a phase out of J-1 visas. COGME favors reducing residency slots of US medical school graduates from 144% to 110%.

FP residency group rescinds guidelines on incentives

Article Abstract:

The Association of Family Practice Residency Directors has rescinded its guidelines involving economic incentives offered to residents.
