Prescribing of contraindicated protease inhibitor and statin combinations among HIV-infected persons

Article Abstract:

A retrospective cohort study is presented to determine prescribing rates of contraindicated combinations of protease inhibitors (PIs) and statins in HIV-infected persons in Tennessee and to assess changes in prescribing after publication of treatment guidelines using the TennCare program. It is concluded that rates of combined used of statins with PIs were increased in the TennCare population during 2001 through June 2002 compared with previous 4 years.

Oxidant stress and peripheral neuropathy during antiretroviral therapy: An AIDS clinical trials group study

Article Abstract:

The relationships between oxidant stress and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI)-induced peripheral neuropathy were explored by quantifying plasma [F.sub.2]-Isoprostanes among AIDs Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) 384 participants. The findings suggest that symptomatic NRTI-associated peripheral neuropathy was not associated with increased plasma [F.sub.2]-Isoprostanes among ACTG 384 participants.

Implications of T-cell P-glycoprotein activity during HIV-1 infection and its therapy

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted characterizing the relationship between T-cell P-gp activity and clinical parameters in HIV-infected adults in order to explore which of these mechanisms predominate in vivo. Thus, the study was conducted on 185 patients out of whom 131 were receiving antiretroviral treatment.
