Care of vaginal symptoms among HIV-infected women

Article Abstract:

Gynecologists are more likely to provide proper care for HIV-infected women with vaginal symptoms than primary care physicians, even those with experience treating HIV patients. This was the conclusion of a study of 127 HIV-infected women who went to a gynecologist or their regular doctor.

Prevalence and predictors of highly active antiretroviral therapy use in patients with HIV infection in the United States

Article Abstract:

Many HIV patients are not receiving highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART), which became the standard treatment for HIV infection in 1996. African-Americans, drug addicts, heterosexual women, poor patients, and those with CD4 T cell counts greater than 500 were less likely to be receiving HAART.

Screening for cervical cancer in HIV-infected women receiving care in the United States

Article Abstract:

Many women with HIV infection are not receiving adequate follow-up care if they have an abnormal Pap smear, according to a survey of 43,490 HIV-infected women. This is important because HIV infection increases the risk of developing cervical cancer.
