Progress Toward Poliomyelitis Eradication--European Region, 1998-June 2000
Article Abstract:
Widespread vaccination of children in 38 countries in the World Health Organization (WHO) European Region (EUR) has successfully interrupted the transmission of wild poliovirus in this region. A description of vaccination activities between 1998 and 2000 is presented.

Article Abstract:
Polio still occurs in many countries in central and western Africa, despite the implementation of National Immunization Days and other eradication strategies in 1996. Civil wars and other internal crises often prevent the implementation of these strategies.

Progress Toward Poliomyelitis Eradication--Eastern Mediterranean Region, 1999-September 2000
Article Abstract:
Poliomyelitis should be eradicated in 19 of the 23 countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region by the end of 2000. Twenty of the countries conducted National Immunization Days in 1999 and 2000 to increase the number of children vaccinated against polio.
