PubMed Central: government as publisher?

Article Abstract:

Biomedical researchers and publishers continue to debate the need for a central repository for all reports of medical research. The National Institutes of Health has already developed this repository, called PubMed Central, but many medical publishers refuse to post their articles on the web site.

Reasons for sex-specific and gender-specific study of health topics

Article Abstract:

Doctors must pay more attention to how a patient's sex can affect their health and how they are affected by disease, according to a report from the Institute of Medicine. Sex differences can also determine how patients will respond to a drug or what type of health counseling is most appropriate.

Vitamin D and sunshine

Article Abstract:

Vitamin D supplements may be enough to prevent vitamin D deficiency now that many Americans are being told to limit their exposure to the sun. Sunlight can stimulate the production of vitamin D in the skin, but sunscreen use decreases vitamin D production.
