Quality comes home
Article Abstract:
It appears that five principles could effectively guide the restructuring of the health care industry in order to effectively meet individual patient needs. These principles include funneling energy and money into fighting disease and wasteful treatment practices and not into market competition. The flow of patient services and quality of care need to be priorities and not the structures themselves. Higher short-term costs may reduce overall long-term costs. Effective treatment practices at one institution may not completely transfer to another institution.

Cooperation: the foundation of improvement
Article Abstract:
Cooperation is essential to improving the health care system. Cooperation does not always involve giving up a leadership role or sublimating one's own needs and goals. Physicians can benefit greatly from cooperating with other members of the health care system, including nurses and other allied health personnel, administrators, patients and their families. The best ways of ensuring cooperation are by developing shared purposes, creating an open environment, encouraging different viewpoints, negotiating solutions and applying rules fairly and equitably.
