Rationing rationales
Article Abstract:
Nurses and trust chiefs are united in their opposition to the idea of National Health Service (NHS) rationing that has been put forward by leading opinion-formers in summer 1995. A report published by the Royal College of Physicians in Sep. 1995, argued that the introduction of expensive high-technology medicine coupled with Britain's ageing population makes rationing unavoidable. The suggestion was totally rejected by the Royal College of Nursing which believes that any concessions made to the case for rationing would give governments an excuse for not investing properly in the NHS.

From cradle to grave
Article Abstract:
Some observers believe that the budgetary restrictions now being imposed on the National Health Service (NHS) will return the UK to pre-NHS days, when families had to battle hard to obtain health care. The NHS, now almost 50 years old, was founded on the example of associations such as the Tredegar Medical Aid Society, which existed to help people whose care requirements were not being met by the state. This is now becoming the case again.
