Reactions to nurses' expanding practice: some see Scope of Professional Practice as the go-ahead for dumping doctors' tasks on nurses. Others view it as liberating
Article Abstract:
The Scope of Professional Practice is a regulatory framework published by the UKCC, to guide nurses, midwives and health visitors on extending and enhancing their practice. Some practitioners have welcomed the framework for enabling them to work more comprehensively and effectively, although others see it as encouraging doctors to dump tasks on nurses. Some practitioners have been successful in enhancing their practice, although evidence shows some role confusion.

Article Abstract:
The effectiveness of nursing development units (NDUs) has been compromised by the organisational restructuring of the United Kingdom National Health Service during the NDU trial period of 1993-96. NDUs were developed in order to improve nursing procedure by the examination and promotion of new ideas and techniques. Due to staff changes, especially at the managerial level, and lack of interest from other workers, it was difficult to use the NDU methods correctly.
