The age of discontent

Article Abstract:

UK health authorities are being urged by the government to implement employment policies which actively promote the selection of older people. No laws are being passed to make ageism illegal, with the government relying on best practice codes instead. Nurses find it increasingly difficult to continue working after the age of 65 years, with figures showing there were only 90 nurses over the age of 65 years registered with local health authorities in 1998. A further 6.1% of the nursing profession was made up of people aged between 55 and 64.
