Doctors and disability insurance: the love affair is over

Article Abstract:

Disability insurers are increasing insurance costs and decreasing benefits for physicians. The changes in the individual disability industry are a result of skyrocketing disability claims due to overinsurance and declining incomes. Doctors have several options for adjusting to industry changes including replacing noncancelable policies with less expensive coverage and buying large amounts of noncancelable coverage with guaranteed insurance riders.

The consequences faced by an employee due to disability during the term of employment are described along with the various measures to overcome the hardships faced after this. To avoid financial hardship one must make sure that employment contract has disability coverage and related limitation.
