Article Abstract:

David Marshall, a community nurse from Northern Ireland, established a project called Healthcheck 2000 Project, to help learning disabled obtain easy access to healthcare, for which he won an NT/3M National Nursing Award. The project began with clinics at locations such as day centre and doctors' surgeries. Some consultations were given at home. The project showed the deficiencies in services to the learning disabled and has now been expanded as far as Iceland.

Article Abstract:

The regulatory system in the healthcare industry has failed to prevent a number of medical scandals. Issues concerning the increasing use of clinical governance and the need to completely recreate the regulatory system are discussed.

Nursing shortage in the National Health Service has lead to an increase in the number of overseas nurses escaping poverty in their own countries by working in the UK, although their home countries are suffering.
