Article Abstract:

The role of the Primary Care Graduate Mental Health Worker is at the forefront of the NHS's workforce development agenda and its success or possible failure is sure to influence future planning and work practices. Health service experts generally agree that service users must be consulted in order to fully understand and judge the effectiveness of the new role, and such knowledge would enable in positioning precisely where the new role fits within the NHS' mental health organizational structure.

Implementing the role of the community matron

Article Abstract:

The government strategy to improve outcomes for people living with long-term conditions was the introduction of the community matron (CM) role. CMs conduct top-to-toe physical examinations, full psychosocial and environmental assessments, take patient histories and review medications and the advanced clinical skills of CMs allow them to identify early warning signs, investigate and diagnose exacerbations of illness and arrange for treatment to be implemented.

Using community matrons to target long-term conditions

Article Abstract:

The community matron is a new type of practitioner, one who is highly skilled and a specialist in community care and inter-agency working. This new role is expected to support new ways of working to reduce unplanned hospital admissions and support the most vulnerable people in the community.
