Scottish solutions

Article Abstract:

A green paper on public health in Scotland recognizes that people's circumstances are an important factor in their health and suggests establishing a working party to promote community health. Health visitors could do more community health work if their role was re-organised to allow more time. The white paper should recommend that health promotion is expanded into nurseries and creches. It should also consider promoting welfare and benefit entitlement to those in need by ensuring that patients have access to a benefits advice worker.

However, it now seems that health promotion will have to place disease causation and prevention in a socio-economic and environmental context.
