Senator urges physicians to be flexible on health reform
Article Abstract:
Senator Jay Rockefeller assured physicians they would be consulted in developing the national health care reform plan and called on them to be open-minded about reform. In comments he made to the American Medical Association (AMA) National Leadership Conference, Rockefeller implied that such flexibility might improve chances of tort reform, which physicians support because it could lead to lower malpractice insurance rates. AMA chmn Raymond Scalettar publicly called for a physician role in the formation of new health care reform policy one day before Rockefeller's comments.

Turning off the violence
Article Abstract:
Sen. Paul Simon gave the television industry 60 days to formulate a plan to reduce violence on television at a meeting of the National Council for Families and Television. If the industry fails to comply with his deadline, Simon said that he will seek federal legislation. Bowing to pressure, the industry has already agreed to broadcast frequent parental advisories. Scientific studies show a link between violence in television viewed by children and later violent behavior.
