Sending Mabel home

Article Abstract:

A matron allowed a disabled woman to leave her nursing home because she was unhappy. The woman was admitted after hospitalisation following a fall but was unable to settle. The woman's home conditions were poor. She suffered from osteoarthritis but had refused outside help and was abusive and uncooperative. However, she valued her independence and the matron decided that she had no right to force her to stay in the nursing home even though she would not manage well at home.
