Serum polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans among people eating contaminated home-produced eggs and beef

Article Abstract:

The author present research on the levels of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins (PCDDs) and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) in the blood of people who ate home produced eggs and beef contaminated with PCDDs and PCDFs. Contamination levels were high enough that the authors recommend reducing exposure.

Reporter gene assay for fish-killing activity produced by Pfiesteria piscicida

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the components and structure of the fish-killing agents found in Pfiesteria piscicida, a toxic dinoflagellate which has been known to affect humans as well as fish. Experiments attempt to develop a functional assay to screen for toxic activity and guide purification.

Environmental estrogens induce transcriptionally active estrogen receptor dimers in yeast: activity potentiated by the coactivator RIP140

Article Abstract:

Research shows that bisphenol-A and octylphenol behave similarly to estradiol in exerting their estrogen-like activity, based on studies using three yeast genetic systems. In each case the coactivator receptor interacting protein 140 (RIP140) potentiated the behavior.
