Article Abstract:

Many objects and equipment are not designed for those of short stature, which can have an adverse effect on health and stamina. Also, although manual handling regulations recommend the use of lifting and carrying aids, such as trolleys, those in airports, supermarkets and workplaces are usually designed for people of average stature. Manufacturers of protective workwear and equipment should introduce petite ranges, similar to high street fashion stores.

The Victorians (1850-1920): photography

Article Abstract:

Louis Daguerre was credited with developing the world's first practicable photographic process in 1839. Simultaneously, William Henry Fox Talbot was also working on a similar photographic system, known as the calotype. Talbot published the world's first photographically illustrated book in 1844. It forecast the potential uses for photography and included 24 calotypes.

Work and home: reaching an accommodation

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning the benefits, drawbacks and potential risks of home working for employees are discussed. Research suggests that problems of isolation, lack of support, and health and safety of home workers need to be addressed.
