Should the definition of preeclampsia include a rise in diastolic blood pressure of greater than or equal to 15 mm Hg to a level less than 90 mm Hg in association with proteinuria?
Article Abstract:
A rise in diastolic blood pressure and protein in the urine may not necessarily be a sign of preeclampsia. In a study of 4,302 pregnant women, those who developed these symptoms had similar outcomes to those who did not. Preeclampsia is a serious complication of pregnancy.

Ethnicity, nutrition, and birth outcomes in nulliparous women
Article Abstract:
Dietary differences among ethnic groups do not account for the increased risk of premature birth and small for gestational age babies in some ethnic groups. This was the conclusion of a study of 4,589 women, which was composed of African-American, Hispanic-American, and non-Hispanic white women.

Risk factors associated with preeclampsia in healthy nulliparous women
Article Abstract:
Obesity and high blood pressure in early pregnancy may predict higher risk of preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a syndrome of unknown origin that causes extreme high blood pressure and protein in the urine of the mother and can result in increased fetal complications and maternal death. Of 4,314 pregnancies carried past 20 weeks gestation, 326 women developed preeclampsia. Risk factors independently associated with the development of preeclampsia included maternal body mass index and elevated systolic and diastolic blood pressures before 22 weeks gestation.
