So you want to ... own a care home
Article Abstract:
The thought of running an ideal residential or nursing care home may be attractive to some nurses. Some nurses have successfully followed their dream, but others who have tried to do so have suffered financial difficulties or personal stress. Prospective residential home owners should have the business skills to study the market. Factors in the market include falling numbers in long-term care, falling government funding, and a high degree of regulation. The degree of personal responsibility can be a deterrent for some nurses or a refreshing challenge for others.

Holiday plans
Article Abstract:
People with continence problems are often very anxious about sleeping away from home incase they wet the bed and other people find out. A continence adviser can suggest strategies such as having fewer fizzy drinks and tea, and doing pelvic exercises. Drinking enough fluids during the day is also important because this helps to train the bladder. A drug called desmopressin can help children for a short time, however, it is important that the causes of the continence problem are established so that a treatment programme can be devised.

Telephones: going mobile
Article Abstract:
Mobile phones can be a great benefit for nurses in the UK. They have been cited by nurses as the improvement they would most like to have when they are involved in community care. Nurses can give their locations to colleagues and call for help if needed. Mobile phones can also attract thieves and cannot always be used. Some health visitors purchase their own phones. The type of provision needed depends on the conditions the nurses work under. Nurses in rural areas need a higher degree of coverage.
