Sparfloxacin and levofloxacin

Article Abstract:

The FDA has approved two antibiotics that belong to the class of drugs called fluoroquinolones. Sparfloxacin is marketed under the name Zagam and levofloxacin under the name Levaquin. Both can be used to treat community-acquired pneumonia and chronic bronchitis. Levofloxacin is also effective for urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. The drugs have the usual side effects of fluoroquinolones. Sparfloxacin can cause adverse effects when skin is exposed to sunlight.

Harriette Wilson, a 19th-century courtesan, memoirist and blackmailer, revised her memoirs depending on which one of her aristocratic lovers was prepared to pay for her discretion. Wilson's willingness to be flexible with or distort the truth has presented her biographer with a number of difficulties, most notably in trying to separate fact from fiction.

Sisters under the skin

Article Abstract:

The planet Venus is covered in carbon dioxide, has no water and high atmospheric pressure. Comparing planets is seen as a way of helping to understand changes on Earth, particularly global warming. The NASA Magellan project has produced a map of Venus, showing all features bigger than 120 metres, and will look at the interior of the planet also.
