Stability Study on Specimens Mailed to a State Laboratory and Tested With the Gen-Probe PACE 2 Assay for Chlamydia
Article Abstract:
Mailing biological samples to laboratory facilities for chlamydia testing does not diminish the accuracy of the test. Researchers collected samples from 1,017 women and sent matched swabs by mail and by courier to laboratories for testing. Mailed samples took longer to arrive, and were exposed to higher temperatures, than courier-carried samples. Nevertheless, 99% of paired samples tested identically. Mailing samples for testing with the Gen-Probe PACE 2 test does not appear to diminish the quality of the sample or compromise the accuracy of the chlamydia test.
