Studies explore stroke's gender gap

Article Abstract:

Analysts suggest several reasons why women appear to receive less care than men when stroke occurs. In addition to age, for this difference, inappropriate worry by both physician and patient about bleeding risks associated with standard stroke treatment, unawareness of the level of risk in the female population, and presentation by women with nontraditional symptoms, all contribute to the idea that women fare worse than men in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and outcome of stroke.
