Study of antiretroviral drug-resistant HIV-1 genotypes in Northern Thailand: Role of mutagenically separated polymerase chain reaction as a tool for monitoring zidovudine-resistant HIV-1 in resource limited settings

Article Abstract:

The performance of mutagenically separated polymerase chain reaction (MS-PCR) specific for M41L and K70R mutations in detecting zidovudine (AZT)-resistant HIV-1 strains in Northern Thailand was evaluated. The patterns and prevalence of drug-resistant genotypes among HIV-1- infected Thai individuals who had been treated with suboptimal antiretroviral regimens by sequencing the pol gene were investigated.

Hepatitis B virus genotypes and lamivudine resistance mutations in HIV/hepatitis B virus-coinfected patients

Article Abstract:

The prevalence and distribution of distinct hepatitis B virus (HBV) variants in HIV-positive patients is studied. The analysis has shown that risk transmission group, age, and positive serum hepatitis B early antigen (HBeAg) are some of the main determinants of distinct HBV virologic variants, including HBV genotypes and lamivudine (LAM)-resistant mutants, in HBV/HIV-coinfected patients.

Perspectives on adherence and simplicity for HIV-infested patients on antiretroviral therapy

Article Abstract:

An estimation that 95% of all highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) doses must be taken to maintain durable suppression of HIV in 80% of patients, which many providers now consider adherence as equally important. The data collected are of potential importance to clinicians who seek to structure HAART regimens to which their patients are most likely to adhere.
