Refugees granted asylum in the Netherlands face the stress of isolation and pressures to adapt to an alien culture. They often develop physical and mental health problems that need special services. One specialized program is the Pharos Foundation for Refugee Health Care.

All members of refugee families face specific health problems that need care. Reproductive health services are especially important. Refugee women have often been the victims of rape. Mothers must remain healthy to provide care to their children.
