Numerous statistical points are provided regarding the state of men's health and wellness in the latter stages of the 1990s. Among the facts presented are the average age of a first sexual encounter is 15.8-years-old, 4.8 percent of married men have had an affair, the percentage of men with high blood pressure has dropped since 1980, and that 22.8 percent of men between the ages of 20 and 34 are overweight.

Several self-examinations can be done with the use of one's fingers which can be helpful in detecting potentially serious health problems. Among these examinations are feeling for testicular abnormalities, tapping the head to determine a sinus headache, poking the skin to detect a sunburn, and checking for a pulse to determine heart rates.

Cancer can be genetic in nature, but there are steps that men can take to reduce their risk of developing the disease. Exercises, improved diet and health habits, regular cancer screenings and understanding his risk for cancer are ways a person can reduce their risk factors.
