Heart failure: From the ICU to step-down--And home: A detailed transition plan can help prepare eligible patients for discharge
Article Abstract:
Implantation of ventricular assist devices have become a more common treatment option for patients suffering from end-stage heart failure and have also reduced the need for patients to stay in the intensive care unit (ICU) while awaiting heart transplants. Guidelines that facilitate a smooth transfer of such patients from ICU to a unit specializing in heart failure and transplantation are provided.
